We were able to supply the drains for the De Welle swimming centre in Drachten, the largest swimming pool complex in the Northern Netherlands.
The new swimming pool offers space for recreational swimming, but also for (top) sports. To support the (top) athletes, warm-up rooms and strength and physiotherapy rooms are being created.
The swimming pool consists of:
· A 50-metre competition pool (top sports pool) with a bulkhead and movable floor.
· A multifunctional bath with a movable bottom.
· 325m2 recreational pool with wave machine and toddler zone.
· A paddling pool.
· 100 meter slide, family slide, whirlpool and rapids.
· An outdoor water playground with sunbathing area and terrace.
· A grandstand with 300 fixed and 450 flexible seats.
· Catering with bar, kitchen, multifunctional club room and offices for the sports company.
An iconic object
Hooper Architects is responsible for the design of De Welle.
The new swimming centre is designed as a defining object in the sports park around the Sportlaan. The layout of the new swimming pool consists of a central facility core surrounded by the various swimming pools and the central hall. The core consists of the changing rooms, showers and toilets, storage rooms, a grandstand and staff accommodation on the upper floor.
The different swimming areas all have a different character. The recreational pool mainly radiates dynamics, the competition pool has a top sports look, while the target group pool focuses on learning and playing in a more shielded environment.
Custom made wells
The drains were installed by Pranger Rosier Installations. In consultation, custom-made drains of 195 x 195 mm were chosen, which have a height-adjustable and rotatable top for easy and smooth installation. The covers are equipped with a lock and designed in such a way that they can be walked on safely with bare feet.
The pool is expected to be open for use in early 2025, more photos will be added to this post in mid-November.
